A foldable iPhone is in the works from Apple. Part of a new report has something to do with this special iPhone being launched in 2026. This phone, however, folds, just like a book. As for the foldable screens for this iPhone, and the company that is providing them? That’s Samsung Display, which turns up as a supplier in Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold iterations of the device.
The report, quoting industry sources, adds that Apple is set to out across its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026. So we could expect to see it during the period from July through December of that year. Apple will make a big, possibly the biggest, step forward in the phone market when this phone launches, with the company dragging its feet in entering the market of foldable phones.
Today, in this article, we will discuss the Apple foldable phone display.
Screen Size and Design
The showcase includes two screens in the foldable iPhone. It will have a 5.8-inch outer screen. At this point, the phone is closed, this is the screen you’ll use. When you finally open it, you will get to see its internal panel, which by all accounts is humongous — and said to be 7.9 inches in size. That puts it almost on par with having the equivalent of a small iPad in your pocket.
The expectation is that when in use, the shape of the screen will look like the iPad Air or iPad Pro. In other words, the aspect ratio will be roughly 4:3. A nice design here since the IDE is easy to use iPad iPad-style apps and functionality. In addition, it provides more room for reading, watching videos, and doing work.
Samsung as the Only Supplier
According to the report, Samsung Display will be the only provider of the foldable screens. This is meaningful because it represents how much Apple trusts Samsung’s screen technology. Samsung has developed foldable screens for a few years now, and has become very good at addressing one of the biggest challenges to foldable phones: the crease in the middle of a screen.
As it is today, many foldable phones fall back on a visible crease, at least in the middle, where the phone folds. However, Samsung has been improving the look of the crease. This progress has impressed Apple, which wants Samsung as its only screen supplier on this project.
Production and Volume
It is reported that the foldable screens will come from Samsung Display, and it will start making these by the end of 2025 or early 2026. According to insiders, the foldable iPhone will be produced by Apple in an amount of about 15 million units. That’s more than the earlier guess of spending 9 million units on these devices, implying that Apple expects strong demand for this device.
Additionally, the fact that Apple is making 15 million units also indicates that Apple wants to sell this product on a wide scale, not only as a limited edition or test release. The fact that Apple is confident about its place in the foldable market implies it is.
Price and Expectations
Next, we should discuss the price. The prototype iPhone marketed to the rich will be between $2,000 and $2,500, according to people aware of the project’s design. That’s around ₹1.7 lakh to ₹2.1 lakh in Indian currency. That would be on the expensive side and would be Apple’s most expensive iPhone at any price range yet, even more expensive than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which isn’t cheap.
But the high price can only be attributed to new screen tech, the foldable design, and the making of such a device.
Then what else is Apple working on?

Apple is clearly not stopping at a foldable iPhone, though. In addition, it has reportedly worked on a MacBook with a huge folding screen, as well as a foldable iPad. While these products don’t exactly arrive fast, Apple is seemingly planning for a time when foldable products are a less novel, more accepted reality.
Over the past few years, Apple has also submitted patents for foldable devices. They consist of the design of folding screens, a hinge system, and a way to reduce the crease on the display. One of the reasons the patent is beneficial to us is that a filing isn’t always a sign of imminent release — in fact, it just indicates that the company is looking into the idea.
Competition from Other Brands
However, Apple won’t be the first to release a foldable phone. Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, Huawei, Vivo, and Honor already have foldable phones in the market. However, Apple has always entered new markets when it believed it could do better.
With that in mind, when the foldable iPhone finally arrives, many people would look it as a more refined, durable, and user-friendly product compared to existing alternatives.
