The latest WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.25.9.2 has been released after releasing via the Google Play Beta Program. This update also brings to the table a feature, currently in development but will enable the group members to access the group invite link.
Today in this article we will discuss the features that will come in WhatsApp Beta for Android 2.25.9.2.
New Feature: Invite via Group Link
A new option is being worked upon by WhatsApp, for which an existing group member can share or give access to the group invite link. However, this link can only be seen and shared by anyone in the same group as its admin. New member invite can only be done by an admin and if an un admin tries to do that, s/he needs to ask an admin to send him/her the invite link.
In addition to this, under this new update, the admins of the group can decide if this invite link can also be seen and shared by regular members.
Why is This Feature Important?
This will help group members to easily invite new people without seeking an admin. For groups that are even meant for communities, study groups, fan clubs or even planning events, this is useful. However, assuming the admin puts his faith in the members, he can allow them to invite each other directly.
This will help:
- It will save the admin time as they won’t need to send the invite links to everyone who asks to join.
- Makes group expansion easy by allowing trusted people to add new people.
- This makes it easier to encourage more participation as members will be able to get along with others who they think will help the group.
Despite the fact that members will be able to share the invite link, admins will still be in charge of approving. They also turn this setting off at any time needed. Additionally, they can also reset the invite link so that any old links become invalid.
How Will This Feature Work?
When WhatsApp releases this feature news for it will be available under the group setting and admins will get one new option. For instance, in this section, they already can set other settings such as member approvals and who can edit group info. The newly set will be in the same section and admins will be able to toggle the access to invite link as on or off.
However, if the admin enables this feature, the invite link will appear in the group info section itself and all the group members will see it.
They will be able to copy it and forward it to anyone. Thus, they don’t need to ask an admin for the link anymore. In this option, members will not be able to see the invite link once the admin decides it should be turned off, but the admin will always be able to see who is and isn’t in the group.
What Are the Benefits of This Feature?
- Easier group growth: If group members can directly invite people, it will be easier to grow the group quickly.
- No work for admins: As you only give out invite links to the questions you are interested in, all the new people will do the work of coming up, tagging whats cool in the question you create, and writing their answers to the question.
- Admins can choose whether they want to allow members to share the sending of the invite link or not.
- More group involvement: The members can invite their friends to the group and feel included.
While increasing group member power in this way also increases the power of group admins, the admins still hold the final say. If for any reason things go awry, they can turn off the feature and then reset the invite link. This ensures the group still remains in control and secure.
