Instagram Threads is a new text-based social media app by Meta, launched just 3 months after its announcement and quickly gained 30 million users, including big brands, celebrities, and journalists.

The app’s early users were eager to try it out, with many posting their first messages on Wednesday night. Currently Threads is the top trending topic on Twitter and the most popular free app in the Apple App Store.

In this article we will tell you about What Are Instagram Threads & How To Create An Account On Threads? We have also provided a step by step guide for you to easily get started with Instagram Threads.

What Are Instagram Threads?

The maker of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp has just released a new app called Threads. People can engage in real-time conversations on the platform, which has a feed of mostly text-based posts similar to Twitter (although users can also post photos and videos). According to Meta, posts to Threads are limited to 500 characters. Users of Threads can respond to, repost, and quote the posts of others, just like on Twitter.

This app also incorporates Instagram’s current interface and navigation, and it allows users to share posts from Threads directly to Instagram Stories. Accounts for threads may be listed as public or private. On Threads, verified Instagram accounts are automatically verified.

Following the launch, Threads CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that the platform’s goal is to “create an accessible and welcoming public space for conversation.” “We want to take the best parts of Instagram and build a new experience around text, ideas, and talking about what’s on your mind.”

Though this is to be expected when millions of users are simultaneously joining and using an app, some users did occasionally experience bugs and problems getting content to load in the early hours after Threads launched.

Features Of The Threads App

  • Any account, even ones you already follow on Instagram, is available for searching and following.
  • Text, pictures, and video can all be found in a post or thread. GIFs can’t currently be posted, which is unfortunate.
  • GIFs can, however, be used to reply to a thread.
  • Similar to Instagram, if you create a Private account, other users must request to follow you.
  • Easy sharing of threads on Twitter.
  • DMs cannot currently be sent from the app.

How Is the Threads App Different From Instagram?

  • Threads allow you to post both text and media. On the other hand, Instagram restricts you to posting only photos, videos, stories, and reels, all of which are distinct media types.
  • Reposting another user’s post is not permitted on Instagram. Similar to Twitter’s Retweet function, Threads’ Repost button is available.
  • Only the accounts or people you follow can post or share content on Instagram. Depending on your interests, Threads will show posts from arbitrary accounts in your feed.
  • No one who follows you on Instagram can automatically follow you on Threads.

How To Create An Account On Threads?

Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta launched Threads to competite with Twitter, and it quickly attracted millions of users. Your account on Threads is by default set to public and it is a text-based conversation app that remarkably resembles Twitter.

You can make your Threads account private if you prefer to share content only with people you have given permission to see it.

In this way, no one will be able to view or interact with your content unless you give them permission to follow you. In order to make your Threads account private, adhere to the directions below:

Step 1: On the Threads app, tap the ‘Log in with Instagram’ text and choose your username. You will now be redirected to create your profile. The details can be manually entered or imported from your existing Instagram account by clicking the “Import from Instagram” button. When finished, select Next.

Step 2: Threads will now prompt you to choose your preferred level of privacy. Choose between a public and a private profile.

Step 3: The third and final step is to follow the accounts you’ve selected. A list of all the Instagram accounts you follow is displayed to you by Threads.

You can select which accounts you want to follow or click the Follow All button at the bottom.  Then, click Next. Choose the Join Threads option at the bottom of the screen to finish. This is the last step of the process.

Once your Threads account becomes private only followers who have been approved will be able to view and interact with your content.

Remember that your Instagram account’s visibility won’t be impacted by this. Disable the toggle and tap “OK” if you want to keep your account’s public visibility as it was.

Everything you share on your account will be visible to everyone, who can also interact with it. Just to be clear, doing this will not make your Instagram account public.

You can also quickly change your Threads username via Instagram. It is also advised that you enable two-factor authentication on Threads if you want to safeguard your account from malicious users.

How to use Instagram Threads?

All of the threads and posts from the users you follow are displayed on the homepage, along with suggested posts from unfollowed users.

Imagine it being similar to Twitter’s For You page. This is currently the default view for the Threads Home page, though an option to only see posts from following accounts will soon be available.

The Search page allows you to search for specific accounts and displays suggested accounts. By tapping the search bar, you can also view your search history and, if you’d like, clear it.

You can share a new post by tapping the Compose button in the center. You can access your notifications by tapping the heart icon, which opens the Activity page.

The Profile page, which is the last stop, displays your profile along with sharing and editing options, a link to your primary Instagram account, and various customisable app settings.
